    Privacy Policy

    Effective Date: April 17, 2026

Your privacy matters. This page explains, in plain English, what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

    Introduction

Welcome to PetHelpAnswers ("PetHelpAnswers," "we," "us," or "our"). We operate pethelpanswers.com (the "Site"), where we publish guides, tools, and reviews to help dog and cat owners care for their pets.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you visit the Site. It is designed to comply with US privacy law, the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA.

By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

    Information We Collect

We collect three categories of information:

    1. Personal data you give us

We only collect personal data when you choose to provide it — for example:

    • Newsletter signup: your email address
    • Contact form: your name, email, subject, and message
    • Future user accounts: if and when we launch accounts, we may collect a username, profile photo, and pet details you choose to add. We will update this Policy before that happens.

    2. Usage data (collected automatically)

When you visit the Site, our servers and analytics tools automatically collect:

    • IP address and approximate location (country/region/city)
    • Browser type and version, device type, operating system
    • Pages viewed, time on page, scroll depth, and click events
    • The site or search query that referred you to us
    • Date and time of your visit

    3. Cookies and similar technologies

We and our partners use cookies, pixels, local storage, and similar technologies to remember preferences, measure traffic, and serve relevant advertising. See our Cookie Policy for the full list and how to manage them.

    How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

    • Operate, maintain, and improve the Site
    • Send the newsletter you requested and respond to your messages
    • Understand which content is useful so we can publish better guides
    • Personalize your experience (e.g. remembering your preferences)
    • Display relevant ads and measure the performance of advertising and affiliate campaigns
    • Detect, prevent, and address spam, fraud, and security issues
    • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms

We never sell your personal information for money. See the CCPA section below for how we treat targeted advertising under California law.

    Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use the following categories:

    • Strictly necessary: required for the Site to function (e.g. remembering your cookie choices). These cannot be disabled.
    • Analytics: tools like Google Analytics 4 and Plausible measure aggregated traffic so we can improve the Site.
    • Advertising: ad networks such as Google AdSense and similar partners may use cookies to show relevant ads and measure performance.
    • Affiliate tracking: retailers such as Amazon Associates and Chewy use cookies to attribute purchases to our referrals.
    • Functional: remember choices like dark mode or location on the vet finder.

You can manage cookies through your browser settings, our cookie banner (where shown), or by following the opt-out steps in our Cookie Policy. We respect "Do Not Track" and Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by law.

    Third-Party Services

We rely on trusted third-party services to operate the Site. Each one has its own privacy policy:

    • Lovable Cloud (powered by Supabase): hosting, database, and backend functions
    • Vercel: website hosting and content delivery
    • Google Analytics 4 / Plausible: aggregated traffic analytics
    • Google AdSense and other ad networks: serve advertising and measure performance
    • Google Maps Platform: powers our veterinary clinic finder
    • Affiliate partners: Amazon Associates, Chewy, and pet insurance providers
    • Email service provider: sends our newsletter and transactional emails

We choose providers that meet recognized security and privacy standards, but we encourage you to review their policies for full details.

    Data Sharing and Disclosure

We share personal data only in these limited situations:

    • Service providers: with vendors who help us run the Site (hosting, analytics, email delivery), under contracts that require them to protect your data.
    • Advertising partners: with ad networks for the purpose of serving relevant ads — typically using cookies and aggregated data, not your name or email.
    • Legal requirements: when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of PetHelpAnswers, our users, or others.
    • Business transfers: if we merge with, are acquired by, or sell assets to another company, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any change in ownership or use of your data.

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.

    Data Security

We protect your information using industry-standard safeguards:

    • HTTPS/TLS encryption for all traffic to and from the Site
    • Encrypted databases and access controls on our backend (Lovable Cloud / Supabase)
    • Role-based admin access, multi-factor authentication, and audit logs
    • Rate-limiting and validation on all public forms
    • Regular dependency and security reviews

No system on the internet is 100% secure. If we ever experience a security incident affecting your personal data, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.

    Data Retention

    • Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe
    • Contact form messages: up to 24 months, then deleted or anonymized
    • Analytics data: typically 14 months in aggregated form
    • Server logs: up to 90 days for security and troubleshooting

    Your Rights

If you live in the EU, UK, or EEA (GDPR)

    You have the right to:

    • Access the personal data we hold about you
    • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
    • Request deletion ("right to be forgotten")
    • Restrict or object to processing
    • Receive your data in a portable format
    • Withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing)
    • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority

Our legal bases for processing are: your consent (newsletter, cookies), legitimate interests (improving the Site, security), and legal obligations.

If you live in California (CCPA / CPRA)

    You have the right to:

    • Know what categories of personal information we collect, the sources, and the purposes
    • Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
    • Request deletion of your personal information
    • Correct inaccurate personal information
    • Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising
    • Limit the use of sensitive personal information
    • Be free from discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

We do not sell personal information for money. To the extent that sharing data with advertising partners qualifies as "sharing" under the CCPA, you can opt out by adjusting your cookie preferences or by sending a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser.

    How to exercise your rights

Please use our contact form to submit a privacy request. We will respond within 30 days (GDPR) or 45 days (CCPA). We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.

    Children's Information

The Site is intended for adults (18+) who care for pets. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/UK).

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information to us, please use our contact form. We will delete the information promptly.

    International Data Transfers

We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process your data in the US or other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) to protect international transfers.

    Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent version. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Site, by email (if you've subscribed), or both. Continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
