    Cairn Terrier

The original 'Toto' from The Wizard of Oz — a hardy, no-nonsense Scottish working terrier. Cairns are alert, busy, and tougher than they look. They make excellent family dogs for active homes that can manage their prey drive, daily exercise needs, and minimal-but-regular grooming.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Are Cairn Terriers good family dogs?

Yes — they're affectionate with family, playful and adaptable. Better with older kids who handle them respectfully; their feisty terrier nature can wear thin with rough toddlers.

    Do Cairn Terriers shed?

Minimally — their wiry coat traps loose hair. They need hand-stripping or clipping every 8–12 weeks to maintain texture.

Are Cairn Terriers good apartment dogs?

Yes if exercised daily. They're small enough for any home but bored Cairns become diggers and barkers.
